It would be good to be able to use UV shell of your basemesh to select polygons likewise polygroups.
Exporting obj with polygroup is a bit tedious. UVs are easier.
What do you think?

Yes, we already have a similar feature in our roadmap. But it’s a low priority feature because we have to implement other tools to make it possible.
