Ubuntu: "unable to locate the program"?

I am trying to install the WRAP3 trial on a Mac Mini running Ubuntu. I am brand new to linux (only using it to see if I can get Wrap running, as there is no Mac version). Downloaded and unzipped. I have attempted to “Open with Run Software” but I get the error “Unable to locate the program”.

Ubuntu sees the item “Wrap3” as a file, not as an application….
Opening the Permissions window I am unable to click “Allow executing file as a program”…

Apology for the extreme newbie question, but does anyone have suggestions? I’ve searched this forum and the internet, maybe this is a simple mistake? Or there is something basic I need to do first?

Thank you,
holly

Hello!

It looks like archive extraction step was failed with incorrect file permissions. Here is the simplest way of running Wrap3 on modern Ubuntu which must work in nearly all situations:

  1. Download Wrap3 linux archive (today’s version - R3DS_Wrap_3.2.0_Linux.tar.bz2)
  2. Right mouse click on the file item and in the context menu select “Extract Here”, it will create folder named “R3DS_Wrap_3.2.0_Linux” with all Wrap3 contents.
  3. Go to this directory and just double click on a file named “Wrap3” to run application.

If it doesn’t work for you then you can call me in Skype and I will help you. My nickname is ivan.gubarev

Thanks for confirming Wrap works under Ubuntu, and the steps to un-archive. I think the problem was my hdd formatting. I’ve reformatted to an Ubuntu-friendly Ext4 now…. Newbie-user issues, completely unrelated to Wrap… ::slight_smile:

Wrap3 is launched and open  Excited to try it!
thank you!
