Request: Paint tool to control/scale parameters across a mesh

Hi there, I’m currently evaluating this product and seriously considering a purchase. It seems like already excellent software, you just need to keep the good stuff coming.

I am working with the lattice deformer to do batch processing on some blendshapes. I need to transfer some blendshapes from one character to another (the geo to deform is the blendshape for the original character, the source is the original character and the target is the new character using the same topology). I find that I would like to be able to set neighbors to 1 for most of the mesh, but increase it for some problem areas that need a smoother result. I realize I could probably cut up the mesh with selection nodes and perform multiple deformations with different parameters, but i have a feeling it wouldn’t produce as nice of a result as being able to control the parameters using a paint tool with a smoother gradient. This same tool could then be used for other nodes (wrap for example).

Additionally, it would be great to have an option on the lattice deformation to ignore the neighbor parameter (set it to 1) wherever the geometry to deform and the source deformation models are an exact match, and use a higher value (or painted value) where there is some deformation actually occurring.

Also, if there’s a better way to transfer the blendshapes from one character to another, I’d love to hear of it.

Thanks for your time

Hi Mre,

Thank you for the great feedback! We have soft masks (that you can paint with a brush) in our roadmap. Indeed it will be useful for many nodes.

Also, if there's a better way to transfer the blendshapes from one character to another, I'd love to hear of it.

If both characters share the same topology, the better approach would be to use Blendshape node. You basically take blendshape deltas from one character and add them to the other one. Please check this video after 4:00:

That’s awesome, I’m sold! ;D Definitely going to try that Blendshape node. I wasn’t sure how I missed the existence of it.. but then I notice on your documentation web page that some nodes are missing underneath ‘Nodes Reference’ sometimes. Looks like its just a minor web page issue. For example, if I am on the ‘LoadGeom’ page, then Blendshape is missing from the directory on the left side. If I navigate back to ‘Node Reference’ page by clicking on it, the missing items reappear.

Thanks again Andrew, I’ll purchase once my trial runs out.
