Marker Snap

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, I’ve been super slammed at work.

I’m loving the new texture features, thanks a lot Andrew for helping me get this going. I am seeing an issue however with the current implementation of placing control points for registration.

It would be more useful if we could place control points anywhere on a the surface of a face, not just on the vertex. In my attachment you can see that the points captured in my scan are not on verts on my low res and therefore I can’t get a super accurate registration. This is a huge problem when snapping to facial expressions that you want to blend to, especially for mulitple heads in production using the same base mesh.

There may be a workaround that’s not obvious to me though, any advice would be great.

I totally agree with you from the point of my experience. Specifying point correspondences is pissing me off :frowning: At the moment there is an algorithmic limitation for that. But don’t worry the whole new 2.4 release will be dedicated to automatic point correspondences and batch processing of blendshapes!

Yep :smiley: At least it will be possible to specify all markers first and then run the long-long registration process for all the scans. We are also working on automatic markers detection but this part is in progress.

In world editor, when positioning objects in the world, it would be useful to have a snap to object feature, like already exists with snap to ground and snap to grid.

Sorry my english, I feel like I didn’t get it. Do you mean a process of specifying points on a mesh?

In Wrap 2.3 when you try to set point on a specific skin feature it actually selects a nearest vertex, not the exact point the mouse was over. That was changed in WrapX and will be changes soon in Wrap 3.0, so one will be able to set points in arbitrary position on the surface and drag-and-drop them to adjust the position.
