Installing on Ubuntu

Hello, I am a brand new user and Ive been excited to begin to learn this new software, however I’m having some difficulties. I am a mac user, and I’ve installed Ubuntu on my machine. I am completely lost and cannot even get it to install. I’ve downloaded my license, but I dont know what to do with it. I looked at the official documentation and followed step by step, but I cant seem to resolve it. I’m sure I’m being stupid, but could someone help me?

thanks in advance!

Matthew

Hello!

I don’t have Ubuntu computer right now in front of me, so my answer may be little incorrent in the details. If after it you will still have problems running Wrap3, I will make a video for you tommorow when I will be in the office.

Wrap3 for Linux isn’t packaged into installer like programs in MacOS. Actually it is just compressed archive of portable version of Wrap3 which doesn’t require installation. Just download it, and the unpack it by right clicking on it and choosin something like “uncompress”. Then go to the folder which will be created while unpacking and right-click in free space of it. Select something like “Run Terminal”. It will open command line, and in this command line please type

./Wrap3.sh

and then press Enter. Wrap3 should start. Please let me know if it works for you.

As you can see, it is not the prettiest way to run programs. But at least it is the most general way which works for every modern Linux version. Little later we will create installers like for Windows version which will make installation and starting process far more easy for beginners. By the way we have already planned MacOS version. I’m not saying that we make it right now, but this is already fixed in our near perspective roadmap.

Thank you for your quick reply! I will try to install per your directions when I get home from work. I look forward to it! Thanks

Sorry, which file am I extracting? The .deb file I downloaded from the server link on the documentation page or the license file I received?

Hello!

Here is the link to Wrap3 for Ubuntu:
https://download.russian3dscanner.com/Wrap/Linux/R3DS_Wrap_3.4.8_Linux.tar.bz2

Deb file from the server link is for license server in the case when you want to work with floating licenses. I suppose that your license is nodelocked, so you can use it directly without installing license server.

Thank you so much! I just got it downloaded, and I am eager to try it out. Thanks again for your help!

Hi!

Did you succeed?
