corrupts mesh

exporting from r3ds wrap to maya has led to a huge frustration where the files are coming out corrupt in some form (upsetting the vertex order?). it very hard to enplane so i will leave images as well link below.

Hello,

That definitely should not happen. I’m pretty sure it’s a matter of one checkbox in maya’s OBJ-import settings.

Could you please send me (in private message) the original basemesh before feeding it into Wrap? I will wrap it around one of the scans I have and figure out maya’s import settings for the blendshapes to work properly. Maya’s import behaves differently if the OBJ-file has polygroups or material specification or both.

For some reason the original basemesh’s OBJ-file violates OBJ-specification (let me leave all the technical details) and Wrap 2.3 is not smart enough to handle this.

The fast way to fix this is to remove all polygroups information from the OBJ-file.

To remove polygroups from OBJ-file:

  • open your original OBJ-file in WordPad or any other text editor.
  • remove all the lines that start with "g " (Ctrl+F for "g "). That would remove the polygroups information from the file.
  • Save the OBJ-file and do wrapping again with this basemesh.

In this case you will need to remove two lines:

g Brae_s_Head_Nutral:tweakSet1 aSet tweakSet1
g Brae_s_Head_Nutral:Head_Geo Brae_s_Head_Nutral:brae Brae_s_Head_Nutral:geo polySurface1

Another potencial source of problem is that Wrap 2.3 does not read and thus does not save Materials and Smooth groups specification inside OBJ-file. That will be changed in Wrap 3.0.

Until than the safe way would be to remove all the lines that start with "mtllib ", "usemtl ", "s ".

Don’t forget to check File Type Specific Options > Single Object in Maya’s OBJ-import dialog.

I have sent you the fixed files in reply to your private message.
