Hi. I’m currently using latest trial version of Wrap3.3 and everything works perfect, except i can’t load my saved projects.
The error popup message says “Cannot load project. Invalid UTF8 string.”
Hello skyusarr,
Did you create your projects in previous version of Wrap? In this case I have bad news for you - we broke compatibility with previous versions by changing project file format. Shame on us, we will restore it in upcoming releases. Internal structure of nodes is finally stabilizing so we don’t expect such cases in the future. It was hard decision to break compatibily but we decided that new features overweight pain caused by project recreation. Just didn’t get enough time to make a workaround yet.
If all that I wrote above is not your case, please send me to ivan@russian3dscanner.com your project (only .wrap file), and I’ll check what’s wrong with it.
Ivan
Indeed we broke compatibility and we’re going to fix it in upcoming releases. Sorry for the inconvenience. Apart from that, I think the problem is caused by non-latin characters in file paths inside your project. That is also something to be fixed soon!
I’ve sent you a file. It was created in newest version of Wrap and i can’t open it ![]()
Hi, I would like to add to this subject. I created 2 project with the latest version 3.3.17. Both project couldn’t be loaded du to “invalid utf8 string”. This is frustrating
is there a solution or a workaround?
Hey, sorry about that. Can you please send me the project file in PM? Project file doesn’t contain models, only file names. It will be very helpful. Chances are I will fix it today.
Interestingly the second project open fine. As a test I wanted to see if a project with no mesh or texture loaded would work.
Thanks a lot! Will try to fix it right now
Hey, thank you again. The problem is definitely in non-english characters in filenames/filepathes. I’m trying to fix it now but it will take me a little longer than I expected. Will try to come up with some solution tomorrow!
Good to know. I saved my setup without mesh loaded, so I’ll be okay for a while.
It work great otherwise, good job ^^
Hello, Wanted to follow up on this. We just installed Wrap 3.3.17 floating license on linux and are unable to load projects. Any solutions?
Hi Michael,
We have only added back-compatibility for the project formats in Wrap3.4. Could you please try if the latest version opens you projects. If it is, let me upgrade your licenses to Wrap3.4.
I’m just running into this problem with a wrap I did sometime in 2018. Cannot open in 3.3.17. I would think this project was done on 3.3 not 3.2 but I’m not sure.
Wanted to test if it opens in 3.4 but I can’t get a trial installed, it says maintenance has expired…
Hi Gigantoad! You can download an evaluation license for Wrap3.4 that is now available in your account on our site and try it. Please let me know if it works for you.
Ok. Anyway it’s a bit shady to not let me open old projects unless I upgrade maintenance. It’s not like this really needed a new version if you hadn’t broken backwards compatibility in the first place.
By the way I had to try to post this message like 10 times before I got the verification right…
