Hi everyone, I’m new here, hope you’re all keeping safe these days!
I’ve been using Wrap for over a month now and it’s fantastic, since then I’ve decided to go a bit advance and start using Blendshapes.
I had my own base mesh which works perfectly fine and has the UVs I want.
I’ve spent a great deal of time wrapping that with all 35 blendshapes from the Gallery in Wrap so now I have my own custom base meshes. I did A LOT of work afterwards, some had to be flipped, mirrored, transferring the Vertex order from the main base mesh, only loosing the original polygroups (3ds max does not support it unfortunately), and I have also made sure that they have the same Poly and Vertex count (making the transfer vertex order a possibility).
Then I came to finally doing the BlendWrapping, using a neutral mesh of the scan…and to my bizarre amusement, they just do not work.
To elaborate, the blendshapes do not even wrap to the scan mesh, sometimes the vertices not having moved at all. I’ve been trying this on a Compressed expression and the eyelids just do not want to squeeze in together (even though there’s a Blendshape mes that does that!) or at the very lest wanting to close its eyes.
Next, I’ve done the whole thing again but using Wrap’s blendshapes from the Gallery, even recreating the Neutral expression from its corresponding scan mesh to be used on all the other expression scans. Not even that worked and it just has a hard time doing any sort of wrapping.
This is driving me crazy! I find this really strange because I’ve even tried on of the Blendwrapping templates that uses Alex’s scan in the Gallery, and that seemingly worked perfectly. :o
I’ve spent all this time being very careful and it doesn’t seem to work. I really don’t know what is happening and where to go after this.
Sorry for this being a long post. Has anyone experienced anything like this? And might anyone know how resolve the issue? I would greatly appreciate it!
Hope the backstory helps
I’m sorry to hear it doesn’t work for you. It’s most likely because the blendshapes were prepared incorrectly. Could you please send me your project and the models? It would be the fastest way to solve it. We can sign NDA if needed.
Apart from that, no need to wrap 35 blendshapes to convert them into your topology. You can wrap one single blendshape (preferably mouth-open expression) and then use a Lattice node to automatically get the rest.
I have tried to be very careful with the preparation of the blendshapes. As I said previously, I have tried this with Wrap’s BlendWrapping sample project and Blendshapes from the Gallery, starting from scratch and it still doesn’t work!
I have PM’ed you a link of the project containing everything used, you should be able to link them all.
You should also set Projection=Orthographic and Angle=1 in the settings because of the scan’s scale, doing so will allow you to see them properly in the Viewports.
Please let me know once you’ve received the files and had a look in this thread, I would like to continue discussions here and for educational purposes.
I’m very sorry, I missed the PM notification from the forum so I didn’t see your message.
I have just sent you an email with my response.
From your previous post, I think I know the problem. I guess your model is not in the centimeter scale. The default BlendWrapping parameters assume both the model and the scan are in centimeter scale so some parameters are set in centimeters.
I highly suggest scaling your model to centimeter scale before the BlendWrapping, and scaling it back using a Transform node after. You can use a head base mesh from the gallery as a scale reference.
Please let me know if the scaling approach works for you.
Yes I’ve gotten your email and have just sent you a reply an you should have a new link to the project files.

I have thought about this too and have already tried scaling the models 10x their size but the problem still persists unfortunately.

I forgot to bring this up in my previous post, but I had no idea this was possible, I don’t even know how to use it. My experience with Lattice was from 3ds max and its operation is somewhat different than what you’ve described.
Could you possibly make a quick video demonstrating what you are describing to me? I can’t find anyone trying this node online
